The weather has started to change the days are cooler and mostly cloudy. The
daytime temperature is in the low 80's and the nights are getting in the
70's. The winds have been pretty steady out of the SSE at 15 to 20 mph for
the past couple of weeks. The water is looking great the high tides have
pushed a lot of fresh water into the Laguna Madre. The water temperature on
11/6/00 is 70.3 degrees and will fall with the next cold front.

The trout fishing is great I have been catching good numbers of trout 16 to
25 inches long. Most of the fish are being caught in 4 to 5 feet of water
from the JFK Bridge to Pure Oil Channel. Bass Assassins, Kelley Wigglers and
Gamblers are the soft plastics to use. These colors are the ones working
best for me limetreuse, pumpkinseed, and white Top water lures are working
great as well, try them early in the morning, the best color is bone.

Lots of red fish around the Boat Hole area and south of the JFK Cause Way.
The red fish bite is doing great! I am finding tailing red fish 12 to 16
inches of water. Pumpkinseed has been a great color to use in clear water. I
have been using Bass Assassins, Gambler and Kelly Wigglers, try using them
with a light * jig head when you are in shallow water. I have also been doing
great drifting in 2 3 feet of water casting to potholes. Here I have been
using a bone color Top Dog and have great success with it. We caught a limit
of 9 red fish today on it. Nighthawk, Tide Gauge Sand Bar, Nine-Mile Hole,
Yarborough Pass and Rocky are some of the places I have been finding Red
fish. Good luck and have a great time fishing on the water.

I am glad to report that the fishing is going well. There are good reports
coming from Baffin Bay and the Laguna Madre. Fishermen are catching trout and
red fish all the way up and down Rocky. The Tide Gauge Sand Bar and the Bad
Lands in Baffin Bay are holding good numbers of trout with some red fish
mixed in with them. The Meadows is a great place to try when the wind picks
up, fish the drop off on the East Side. There are some trout in the middle of
the Meadows as well. The water looks great in certain section of the Laguna.
Depending on the wind condition the water in Baffin Bay and Rocky are in the
best shape. The water on the King Ranch Shore Line is looking pretty good.
Try to find some pot holds to fish, most of the fish are coming from those
areas. The water is 87 degrees and the weather is looking good. The wind is
starting to lay down and this is making it a lot easier to fish structure.

We have done great on our last six trips with bone and chartreuse Top Dogs.
Charles Lewis caught and released a 30, 27 and 25-inch trout on chartreuse
and a bone colored Top Dog. Charles and I also caught about 20 trout and some
nice red fish on top water. The top water strikes where extremely aggressive.
The fish seem to be feeding all day, but the best fishing was between 7:00 AM
and 10:00 AM. Most of the fish where caught in Baffin Bay over the rocks on
the South shore. The day was beautiful, 93 degrees light winds. The water
temperature is 87 degrees with clear visibility. Take a look a Charles's
picture below.

I had a great time fishing with Ryan, Jason and James. We fished the Rocks on
the Kennedy Shore Line just south of Baffin Bay. We caught 28 trout from 17
to 27 inches long and two red fish, great trip guys. The weather, water and
the fishing conditions have been super! Take a look at Ryan's picture below.

Baffin Bay Water Conditions

The water from the JFK Bridge all the way to the Land Cut is in great shape.
The South Shore in Baffin looks to be in better shape than the North Shore.
The water on the South side of Baffin Bay, Yarborough Pass and Land Cut is
looking great. The Kennedy Shore line from Baffin to the Land Cut has some of
the clearest water in the Laguna, allowing you to see the rocks along
shoreline. The water temperature is 87 degrees. Good luck and I hope the
water condition report helps you with your fishing.

Fishing here in Corpus Christi Texas is great year round. The weather is
super! and the fish are always ready to bite. Corpus Christi is a great place
to get away and do some fishing in the summer and fall. The short drive from
Houston, Austin and San Antonio make it easy to get to Corpus Christi from
all over South Texas. All you need for a great day of fishing is to send me
an E-MAIL or give me a call at 361-937-5961. Visit my web site at

Fishing and the weather are starting to look a lot better. John Glen, in my book the number one saltwater taxidermist on the Texas coast reported that in the last month he has received 15 big trout to mount. The fishermen are starting to come into Marker 37 Marina with good catches.

Baffin Bay and the Land Cut are the places to go. Work the drop off in the Land Cut and the
rocks around Baffin Bay. The best water in Baffin is on the South Shore, and the biggest trout are coming off the rocks. Try using KELLEY WIGGLERS, BASS ASSASSINS, and GAMBLERS on a 3/8-ounce jig head. The best colors are plum, pumpkinseed, white and lime-truce. If the visibility in the water is bad try a lighter jig head "1/8 ounce" under an Alameda popping cork.

The top water action has been great using Chartreuse, bone, and black, gold and orange TOP
DOG and YO-ZURI HYDOR TIGER. I have also been throwing the RAPALA SKITTER
POP and the STROM SALTWATER BIG BUG. These top water poppers work great when
the winds comes up a little and you still want to throw top water lures. I had a great time fishing with the guys from RAPALA, Jorma Kasslin, Olli AhoJari, Kokkonen, Juhani Pehkonen and Lars Ollberg. They came all the way from Finland just because they heard so much about me and had to fish with me, JUST KIDDING! We got out on a Sunday afternoon and we caught some trout,
one about 23 inches long and a nice red fish around 28 inches long.

Take a look at the RAPALA pictures on my fishing report page http://www.sightcast1.com/report.htm The present water temperature is 67 degrees and getting warmer. The weather is typical South Texas, 80 degrees in the middle of February. It is time to start booking your trips for spring and summer.

I believe we will have a great year for big trout and red fish.

Wintertime Saltwater Fishing Technique
12/9/99 Fishing Report

This has been the best fall season I have had in a long time. November offer
us great fishing and great weather. The winter season will change our
fishing technique a little. With the arrival of the first cold fronts here
in South Texas we have seen the water temperature drop from 74 to 64 degrees,
and it is going to go lower.

We will be targeting deeper water and different
structure. Instead of fishing flats that are 2 to 5 feet deep we will be
fishing water that is 6 to 14 feet deep. You can still catch fish in shallow
water but you will need to target the shallow water closest to the deeper
drop off. Your best bet is the Intracoastal Waterway, and any other deep
channels.

The best way to fish this kind of water is with a soft plastic
lure, and a heavier 3/8 ounce jig head. Kelley Wigglers, Gambler and Bass
Assassins are my favorites. These soft plastics are the most productive on
the market. Here are some great colors to try for wintertime fishing,
pumpkinseed, fire-tiger, plum, strawberry, and lime-truce.

The best way to fish these lures is to keep them on the bottom with a slow retrieve and
remember the colder the water the slower the retrieve. When you are fishing
with a slow retrieve it takes you longer to cover the water. Be sure to give
the area you are fishing a little more time to produces fish. I see a lot of
people leave an area before they should. Remember when you are fishing in
the winter you always need to check the weather before you go out, don't take
any chances. Always be sure to take plenty of warm clothing, food, water and
a phone if you have one. Let people know where you are going to be fishing
and what time you plan to be back. Keep your family, friends, and yourself
safe and comfortable on the water.

Good luck and catch a lot of big fish.

The fishing down here in Corpus Christi Texas is great year round. The water
and skies are clear, and the winds are light. Corpus Christi is a great place
to get away and do some fishing in the fall and winter. The fall and winter
temperatures are very mild and there is very little boat traffic on the
waters. The short drive from Houston, Austin and San Antonio make it easy to
get to Corpus Christi from all over South Texas. All you need for a great
day of fishing is to send me an E-MAIL at sightcast1@aol.com or give me a

Fly Fishing Report For: September

I have opened my fall fishing season with some great fly-fishing and weather. To me fall means cooler days, clear water, light winds and super fly-fishing. The red fish are starting to go into their
migration pattern. Big red fish are schooling up to make their run through the Laguna Madre and
head out into the Gulf of Mexico to spawn.

But before they go we are going to have a little fun with them. I am finding red fish just about everywhere, they are in 18 inches to 6 feet of water. The Clouser Minnow and crab patterns are working the best. When you are fly fishing in 6-feet of water you will need to use small lead eyes on your Clousers minnows and crab patterns. It helps you cover more water when your fly is down 2 or 4 feet below the surface. If you are fishing the flats then use the bead chain eye Clousers.

The weather is beautiful, clear skies, clear water; light winds and mild temperature. I have been waiting for this weather all summer.   Shamrock Cove, East Flats, Dead Man's Hole, and the flats north and south of the JFK Bridge are all producing big red fish.  Get out and enjoy the great weather and super fly-fishing.

The fly fishing down here in Corpus Christi Texas is great year round. September, October and
November are some of my favorite months for fly-fishing. The water and skies are clear, and the
winds are light. Corpus Christi is a great place to get away and do some fly-fishing in the fall and
winter. The fall and winter temperatures are very mild and there is very little boat traffic on the
waters. The short drive from Houston, Austin and San Antonio makes it easy to get to Corpus
Christi from all over South Texas.
