Tip
for Making a Shallow-Water and Weedless Rig
- A soft-plastic jerk bait rigged on an offset worm hook is an effective
shallow-water lure for redfish, snook and seatrout. I modified my five-inch
minnow-tails by adding "eyes" in the form of beads from a bead
chain. I poke a small hole through the head of the soft-plastic bait with
needle-nose pliers and insert a three-bead segment of bead chain through
the hole so each end is visible on one side of the bait.

- The bead eyes rattle, which adds to the lure's attraction, and the
extra weight permits longer, casts and causes the weedless bait to sink
slowly.
