The Happy Troller

The Happy Troller Aids Boat Performance

Engines larger than 30 hp simply can't slow down enough to troll baits at much less than 2 miles per hour, even when tuned and leaned-out. To slow big motors down to a productive speed, without having to buy an expensive trolling motor, Davis Instruments offers the Happy Troller. The durable trolling plates also have several advantages over devices such as drag buckets and drift socks.

The easy-to-install trolling plate is simple to operate. With a pull of the operating cable, the Happy Troller locks down in place behind the prop. The hardy, metal trolling plate then blocks the blade's propulsion to slow the boat's speed, while allowing the engine to run at its proper revolutions. Available in 2006, the Happy Troller with patented Auto Release converts to up position when the boat accelerates. This action prevents possible damage to the unit from leaving the Troller down at higher speeds.

Unlike other trolling equipment, the Happy Troller aids a craft's performance at higher speeds. When locked in the up position while cruising, the plate acts as a stabilizer. It smoothes out rough rides in choppy water, especially for bow-light boats, and reduces porpoising and cavitation.
The Happy Troller mounts on a motor's anti-cavitation plate to eliminate the problem of tangled fishing lines that can occur with drag buckets and drift socks. If a boat has to rapidly reverse course to avoid rocks, reefs or other obstacles, there are no lines to get caught in the prop.

Davis Instruments offers trolling plates for motors of all sizes. The #460 Large Troller fits all I/Os and outboards 50 hp and larger. For smaller outboards, 20 to 50 hp, the #461 Small Troller is the answer. The trolling plates come with stainless steel mounting hardware.

Both the large and small trollers retail for $129.99 or $149.99 with Auto Release.
