The San Francisco Bay and Californian coast can be brutal when fishing and cruising. Ken Alldrim of Medico regularly had to deal with 6-7' swells, as well as constant rocking and rolling on his 62' Mikelson Nomad Jani Lee. After extensive research into marine stabilization systems, he chose to retrofit two, state-of-the-art Seakeeper M7000 Gyros. They were installed by Mike's Boatworks, a Seakeeper dealer in Alameda, and the results were amazing. | |||
"I went with Seakeeper because they offer a quality product and I heard nothing but positive things about them," said Alldrim. Providing unmatched onboard comfort, the Seakeeper M7000 Gyros deliver a powerful righting force that virtually eliminates boat rock and roll. "During the sea trials, the Seakeeper Gyros were incredible," said Alldrim. "It was like night and day. They really took all the jolt out of the rolls and I'm delighted with how steady they keep my boat. Now my wife and kids will come out with me more often." Nick Theios of Mikelson Yachts was also onboard during a sea trial. "The Seakeeper system allowed us to comfortably drift in a beam sea with minimal, if any roll," said Theios. "Any boater planning to spend a significant amount of time at low speed or at anchor should consider this extremely effective and virtually silent system." Actively controlled by motion sensors and computer processors, the versatile gyros optimize torque and are highly effective over a range of conditions and applications. The dependable units supply superior stability at anchor, zero and low speeds, as well as while underway. "The Seakeeper Gyros were tested in all types of seas, including during a small craft advisory, and everyone was impressed with how well they performed," said Mike's Boatworks owner Mike Elias. "They really make a difference onboard the Jani Lee." In business for over 25 years, Mike's Boatworks specializes in stabilizers. The company also does custom jobs and aftermarket retrofit projects, including watermaker, bow thruster and other equipment installations. More information can be found at www.mikesboatworks.com. "Working with Seakeeper on this install was great," said Elias. "They were very helpful and provided excellent support throughout the entire process." Seakeeper is a leader in internal gyro stabilization technology. Its compact gyros can be installed as a boat is being built or retrofitted into an existing vessel. "This project is a perfect example of how adding a Seakeeper Gyro can enhance your boating and fishing experience, as well as extend the season," said Seakeeper VP of sales and marketing John Kermet. "Since so many owners want the same stabilization results, we plan to penetrate further into the sportfish arena in 2010. Our products will be offered on multiple high-end brands in the next year."
